Financing Energy Efficiency: Lessons from Brazil, China, India and Beyond

The 3 Country Energy Efficiency Project aimed to substantially increase investments in energy efficiency by the domestic financial sectors in Brazil, China and India.

If present trends continue, these countries will more than double their use of energy and greenhouse gas emissions in the next 20 years. By pursuing cost effective investments in energy efficiency, these countries can reach similar development with substantially lower economic, social and environmental costs.

The project helped to unlock this potential by facilitating related investments and improving implementation effectiveness.

The 3 Country EE was a partnership between the World Bank, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) through the UNEP Risoe Centre (URC), and institutions in Brazil, China and India.

The project was financially supported by the United Nations Foundation and ESMAP, with complementary activities supported by ASTAE/UK DFID.
